Use a natural hair powder to freshen hair on days of unwash.

May 16, 2012 in Hair, Skincare by Denise Wild

There are the rare mornings that I awake from my slumber, head to the shower and after my initial glance in the mirror, decide that my hair looks pretty good. It’s slightly tousled, with a few flirty flicks in front and seems to have that illusive body that I can never attain on purpose. This is where the debate begins. To wash or not to wash?

Lately, Lulu Organics has been letting me drop the gavel on the ‘not to wash’ option. A few sprinkles of the all natural, organic hair powder at the roots and no one is the wiser that I skipped the ‘poo and blowdry routine. Saving me time and an early morning internal debate.

GS Approved: The obvious con to a day of unwashed hair is not only the potential of that initial morning bounce to turn on you and flatten out by mid-morning, but that not-so-fresh hair smell. Lulu Organics Lavender and Clary Sage Hair Powder trades musty for mmm… marvelous.

Inspiration: Dry Shampoo has been around for ages. Well, since the 18th century, at least. Members of the high court of Versailles sported elaborate poufs made of real hair, which were powdered to give them a violet, blue, pink or yellow tint. It seems the look may never meet the same end as Marie Antoinette, as pastel poufs were spotted on the Spring 2012 runways, like this one from Thakoon.

Get silky hair with a smoothing shampoo.

January 2, 2012 in Hair by Denise Wild

I think all of us out there want silky hair, no matter what our natural texture. As a naturally curly haired girl I have learned to embrace my curls (frizz and all!) but there are definitely days when I look to change it up and go straight. Since I’m going against nature I definitely need all the help I can get. A good shampoo is where it starts and Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Shampoo has a formula that leaves hair smooth and shiny. The built in smoothing serum with a formula containing pink lily and Asian silk extracts is the key to achieving the desired sleek look.

GS Approved: Not only does this shampoo leave your hair feeling silky smooth, it has a great fresh scent that’s not too fruity. The first time I used this stuff the husband and I were standing in a long line up at the grocery store and he sniffed my hair and told me how nice it smelled. Married to a guy that usually doesn’t notice my new perfume, this product definitely gets the thumbs up from me!

Sooth tired locks with an enriching hair mask with 5 essential oils.

October 13, 2011 in Hair by Denise Wild

Going into Fall and Winter, the weather tends to be dryer and more harsh on scalp and hair. Add on the wooly hats and scarves and my locks can be an outright mess. Luckily, L’Occitane AROMA Soothing Concentrated Mask from the Aromachology Hair Care collection repairs, moisturizes, and soothes the scalp to combat dry and windblown tresses. Together with calming extracts, the 5 essential oils from chamomile, mandarin, cedar, basil, and lemongrass relieves itching, and protects sensitive scalp for lasting comfort. Microcirculation stimulated by the mask works to decrease inflammation and irritation of the scalp for better hair growth and nourishment.

GS approved: The experts at L’Occitane have got the right idea: get to the root of it! For silky healthy hair give your scalp the nourishment and moisture it needs.

Hydrate your hair with a gentle shampoo.

August 16, 2011 in Hair by Denise Wild

I love the sun and all things summer. The warmth of the sun, days at the beach, swimming the weekends away – all of this is definitely what summer is about. Unfortunately all these fun summertime activities can do some major damage to your hair. To bring your locks back to life try a hydrating shampoo like Bain De Terre Coconut Papaya Ultra Hydrating Shampoo. The dirt and oils left on your hair are gently removed without making your hair looking dull or feeling dry. You’re left with silky and hydrated hair that is touchable and soft.

GS Approved: The hair care line by Bain De Terre is fortified with botaniceuticals – botanical ingredients that have been ethically harvested to retain and deliver all the benefits intended by nature.

Resist humidity with a strong hold gel.

August 5, 2011 in Hair by Denise Wild

As Canadians we always complain about the weather. In the winter it’s too cold, in the summer it’s too hot.  I for one am NOT going to complain about the heat and the sun since it feels like we get so little of it! The humidity however DOES make hair styling tricky. How do you maintain that perfect textured style without the stickiness of heavy products? An alcohol-free gel such as TRESemmé Ultra Firm Texture Gel works perfectly on short layered and textured styles. Providing all day control and humidity resistance frizziness will not ruin your steamy summer nights.

GS Approved: Affordability is important especially when it comes to our everyday products. TRESemmé is famous for offering professional quality hair care products at prices that still allows us some indulgences every now and then.
